OUR JOURNEY
Adventist Medical Center-Valencia City, Incorporated.,(AMCV) a 100-bed Level 2 hospital licensed by the Department of Health, has a very humble beginning as a 12-bed clinic.
–
It was in 1993 that South Philippine Union Conference (or SPUC, then the South Philippine Union Mission) came into possession of the Casuga Surgical-Medical Clinic, a small clinic nestled in a 555-square meters lot in the growing municipality of Valencia, Bukidnon. The management of the clinic’s operation was endorsed to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (or ADRA) Philippines, under the leadership of Mr. Lamar Philipps, who had a vision for the small clinic. When Mr. Philipps was reassigned to ADRA Africa, his supervision over the clinic was given to Mr. Gil G. Micua, the ADRA Philippines Associate Director for Mindanao.
–
Working together with Mr. Micua were thirteen dedicated and hardworking pioneer volunteers: Fred S. Valmores, treasurer; Remedios Vitacura-Banquiao, cashier; Nicolas T. Nuñez, assistant administrator, chief nurse, and emergency room head nurse; Rose Mae Vasquez Alboria, staff nurse; Marilou Abella, midwife; Nelson Ambaan, staff Nurse; Nueva Villamor-Roa, resident physician; Daniel Gonzales, janitor; Lylibeth Palma-Halasan, secretary and medical technologist; Venus Nave, chef; Gay Nianga, staff nurse; Gladelyn Paglinawan, staff nurse; Merajen Rosalita, staff nurse; and Henry Jamelarin, ADRA driver and maintenance person who was regularly compensated monthly by ADRA–Philippines.

These medical professionals and administrative staff labored tirelessly to get the clinic ready for opening. They worked as carpenters, masons, plumbers, painters and cleaners; no job was beneath them. Together, they converted the Casuga residence into a dormitory, conference hall, and the dietary department, and fixed up the clinic to hold all the wards, an office to house the billing, cashiering, pharmacy, medical records and Medicare claims services, and the accounting office with the sole computer in the the entire clinic.
–
Finally, the clinic was ready, and on October 13, 1993, it was inaugurated and it officially opened its doors for services with a free clinic. (OR and on October 13, 1993, its inauguration and a free clinic officially opened the clinic to the public.) While many patients came to the free clinic, it was still almost a month later when the clinic had its first admitted patient, but in just five months, the number of patients increased to 250 percent its occupancy rate, and the clinic could no longer accommodate the number of patients that came for treatment. Because of this, an extension was made to the clinic.
In 1997 SPUC approved to transfer the management of the hospital from ADRA Philippines to Mountain View College (MVC), and Mr. Fred Webb was given the responsibility of overseeing the operation of the hospital. On December 28, 1998, the hospital was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Valencia Sanitarium and Hospital Foundation, Incorporated.
Foremost in the minds of the administrators was to have a bigger hospital with visions of a medical center in Bukidnon in the future. In the year 2000, God paved the way—two owners of the adjoining lots decided to sell their property to the hospital. The monetary blessings from Adventist Conferences and Institutions near and far made the acquisition of the offered lots possible. The total land area was now 2,400 square meters.

As the medical facility gained increasing patronage from across the province of Bukidnon, the need to enlarge the hospital structure required urgent attention. Plans were made to erect a four-story building. On June 7, 2000, the construction of the building started. The construction moved steadily forward as funds became available. In 2007, seven years after the laying of its foundation, the ground and second floors were finished. In 2011, four years later, the third floor was opened for service. And on June 14, 2015, the fourth floor was inaugurated with Elder Leonardo R. Asoy, SPUC president, as the keynote speaker. The Honorable Azucena P. Huervas, city mayor of Valencia City, and Rufo Gasapo, Southern Asia Pacific Division (SSD) healthcare director, were the guests of honor accompanied by other Adventist hospital presidents and AMCV officers.

Today, AMCV stands as a testament of God’s grace and power. But much work is still to be done in extending the healing ministry of Christ. With the vision to open up a health and wellness center and to expand its medical services, the hospital purchased a 1,192 square meter parcel of land located just behind it. On this land, the hospital envisions to build a new hospital wing so that it can continue to meet the medical needs of those not only in Valencia City but also around Central Mindanao.
